The stuttering still occurs. I made a video of it.
Further observations ( āplay the shared video on the live panel AND at the same time edit a video-themed song in the preview panā) and thoughts:
-
When the stuttering occurs (and both videos SLOW DOWN), the debugging video frame rate numbers in de cmd-box start changing/refreshing a lot FASTER. This seems contradictory?
-
Perhaps a workaroud: when starting to edit a video-themed song: pause this video-theme in the preview pane. And resume preview playing after the edit session is complete.
-
Perhaps a new option (also to save computerresources on less powerfull systems): Show video in preview pane Y/N (default Y).
Hello A few months ago I opened a question, related to the high RAM consumption, I am still working with the 2022 version because I have performance problems in the worship time , but I am interested in putting an animated image in the background, which the 2022 version cannot do.
I donāt know if you have been able to optimize something regarding this issue or have you added an option where the animated preview can be disabled? I have seen that there is no new update and in the ci release version I still have the same problems. Regards
The Quelea repository is a dying project ā abandoned slowly and painfully.
Obviously, there have been no commits, no bug fixes, and no new features for quite some time.
This has been clear to me for years now. Despite that, being both hopeful and stubborn, I decided to create an experimental fork, hoping there would be some interest.
Well, there was hardly any. No surprise, I suppose!
I added some much-needed features and improved a few things (quite nice, actually!).
However, bug fixes are not really suitable for an experimental fork.
I mainly implemented the features I wanted and made improvements based on how I see thingsāthings I actively use.
Bug fixes, on the other hand, should be in the main repository because they affect everyone.
I managed to narrow the main issue down to the GStreamer video module and its interface.
I suspect itās an initialization/de-initialization problemāwhen a new video is loaded, the resources from the previous one donāt seem to be properly released.
Itās possible that the bug originates from the Java-GStreamer interface rather than Quelea itself.
However, I donāt want to spend more time digging into it.
If the maintainer has other priorities and the community isnāt actively engaged, I donāt see myself making many more contributions.
That said, Iāve brought my experimental fork to a nice state.

If anyone is interested in working with me, we could:
- A) Fix bugsāespecially this major one.
- B) Build a macOS version (someone with a Mac would be needed).
- C) Add revamped APIs for new Bible and song searches, as well as remote theme selection.
- D) Finish work on web remotes and some theming improvements.
Then we can revitalize Quelea and provide builds every few months at least.
My team is regularly using my fork
Weāre quite happy with it so far, so I wonāt be changing it anytime soon.
